We Don’t Need No Education

Let’s all agree that music is as important as photosynthesis. The latter is food for plants, the former nourishes the soul.

We find that Math teachers in particular love to include music in the school curriculum. Geometry, number theory, trigonometry, differential calculus, progression, signal processing, Fibonacci sequence, golden ratio – all of this mambo jumbo Math is there in music as well.

Music Education

The ideas, context and perspectives to experience music beyond the restrictive biases of marketing and peer pressure. We believe Music Education should provide a complete and holistic experience of music.

The intent of our school program is to impart a well-informed and holistic sensibility towards music itself. We call this the edubiz.
Instrument learning, singing, and performing are the byproducts – the showbiz.

With over a decade of experience in music pedagogy, and over 60 years of collective professional playing experience, the founders of Taaqademy, Bruce and Rajeev and their team of musicians and administrators have successfully made the music period absent-free, yawn-free and chaos-free.

Holistic Music Ed

Every student gets to experience and learn through our proprietary Taaqademy Music Curriculum. Filled with musical concepts, song learning, music appreciation and much more our curriculum books are setup for all age groups, from KG to 12th grade.

Music Department Setup

We set up a Music Department within the school with multiple Faculty Members, plus a dedicated Account Manager. This ensures minimal disruption to the continuity of the program due to teacher absence. Our Automated Quality Management System tracks and logs every single music class conducted, reviews homework, projects and assignments and shares the assessments with the students. And yes, we are present at PTMs and Open Days to discuss the musical journeys of the students with their parents.

And no, our faculty will not break out into a random song on request. Or maybe they would!

Band & Choir

We set up the School Choir and School Band and develop a repertoire of songs that students can perform at annual day functions and other events. We also train and support students as they participate in inter-school music competitions

Faculty

All our teachers are accomplished musicians proficient in one or multiple instruments. We stress on certifications but also make way for interesting personalities with their unhinged passion and commitment to music education. Being active performing musicians, our faculty bring to the class a sense of theatre!

After School

For those who can invest in time after school, we have instrument-learning group classes.

Kindergarten

Music is infused with play and narrative practices of story telling. Rhythm, melodies, aptitude, compatibility, and appreciation, are introduced as singing concepts. Happy Days Are Here Again!

Primary, Middle, High

The curriculum incorporate unique lesson-delivery mechanisms of live performance of familiar contemporary music to help explain ideas and concepts.

The curriculum is specific to the grade level and incorporates diverse styles and genres of music, from Indian and Western Classical to Contemporary Global Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, and more.

Not to be left behind, we don’t prescribe textbooks, but our customized Taaqademy WorkBooks that use proprietary models and tested techniques to engage students in various inquiry-based and learner-centric music activities, assignments and projects.

And finally, we do have music assessments in line with the school assessments, but no written exams. Come sing / play your chosen instrument, ask for a supplement and thread, make a rocket out of it and let it soar!

Teacher Training

We conduct periodic training sessions covering classroom management techniques, effective lesson plan delivery, how to connect with every student, age-appropriate teaching methods, what to expect from students, special teaching techniques, experiential learning, how to trigger thinking, enquiry-based learning and more – not just teaching and listening.

Our trainers also visit the schools regularly to observe teachers in class. Lead teachers meet weekly to assess progress and evaluate WorkBook delivery.

Co-Curricular

A group would like to come together and form a band, maybe a choir. We have you. We will make you performance ready, co-ordinating with theatre, art, dance and other departments to ensure seamless integration for annual or term productions.

Field trips will include witnessing a rehearsal and recording in studio environments. We arrange for workshops with performing musicians, live music projects and assignments.

This is an elective and offered as an After School Program.

Certification

For serious music toppers, nothing is valid without a certificate. We provide group mentorship as an After School elective per instrument. Our faculty is equipped to prepare students for internationally recognized qualifications from RockSchool, Trinity, ABRSM etc.

Taaqademy is the Registered South India Centre for the RockSchool UK exams. We can also manage the administrative aspects of applying for this particular exam.

No Wall Too High

We Are The World

Taaqademy founders Thermal And A Quarter celebrated 20 years in music in a rather unique way. The ‘No Wall Too High’ initiative, launched in October of that year, aimed to raise 1 million Rupees to bring quality, structured music education to 1500 underprivileged children in Bangalore. Through crowdfunding platform www.fueladream.com and through the generous contributions of friends, supporters and well-wishers, this target was met and surpassed well before the deadline!

In 2017, the No Wall Too High Initiative launched full-spectrum music programs (similar to those running in premier schools like Inventure Academy, Legacy School, etc.) in two schools for underprivileged children – the Annaswamy Mudaliar School in Cox Town and Nirmala Vidyalaya on Hosa Road. Conducted completely free of cost to the schools, these Programs have allowed these children to experience, enjoy and learn about music in its various forms – and also put them on stage at Taaqademy Festivals of Music!

Even though the funds raised were just for the first year of operations, Taaqademy will continue to run these programs through 2020 and beyond. It’s been an incredible experience working with these children and there’s so much more to do!

Some of the city’s top musicians have also volunteered to visit these schools to conduct music classes or workshops when they are able. If you’d like to know more, volunteer, or contribute to this initiative, do drop us a note – info@taaqademy.com
